Ab to Jago

This campaign is held from November 15 to December 10 every year coinciding with the UN’s 16 days of Activism against gender based violence. Focusing on the effective implementation of Protection of Women against Domestic Violence (PWDV) Act 2005 this campaign is held in collaboration with partner organizations across the state. Every year innovative activities are undertaken in educational institutions, communities to spread awareness about the PWDV Act.

Beti ki Udaan

In December 2014 HUMSAFAR launched a ‘Beti ki Udaan’ campaign on the declining girl child sex ratio, gender-based discrimination and empowerment and popularizing the concept of safe city including safety in public transport in collaboration of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. With the help of the youth group a set of posters with these messages have been pasted in the city buses, and an exhibition of these posters were held in major bus stands.

Campaign for Sexual Violence Free Campuses

 HUMSAFAR is committed to raising awareness for the effective implementation of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 for a violence free workplace. Towards this training and orientation workshops are held in educational institutions. Following HUMSAFAR’s efforts Internal Complaint Committees (ICC) have been set up in 13 educational institutions in Lucknow, Hardoi, Sitapur and Unnao.

One billion rising

This worldwide campaign was launched on February 14, 2013. Conceptualized by Eve Ensler, well-known author of ‘The Vagina Monologue’, the OBR campaign aims to bring together at least one million women from across the world to campaign against violence against women. In the inaugural year HUMSAFAR spearheaded the campaign in Lucknow. Thousands of women from all over the state had expressed their solidarity with the OBR campaign by contributing a odhani (Headscarf) which was joined as a chain as a symbolic parcham (flagpost) against patriarchal values.

Rozi-Roti Adhikar Abhiyan (Campaign for Right to Food and Livelihood)

HUMSAFAR anchors and holds the secretariat which includes 80 groups across UP working on different issues from women’s right, child and educational rights to social justice groups. This broad- spectrum group is organized around a range of inter- related issues from farmer and land rights to livelihoods, entitlements human rights of minorities, women and children as well as environment. One of the key roles of HUMSAFAR in this campaign is of giving inputs to all organizations of the network about laws and policies to help them develop their political understanding of this issue.
